Net4Science published a review on bioactive components of the Mediterranean Diet endowed with multi-target mechanism of action in the treatment and prevention of cancer pathologies

In view of specific research activities of Net4Science, the scientific team of the spinoff started a focus campaign on bioactive components able to exert beneficial effects against complex diseases. The first review, published on the prestigious European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, reports a focus on anti-cancer agents included in some popular ingredients of the Mediterranean Diet and endowed with multi-target mechanism of action, the scientific core business of Net4Science. This manuscript is supported also by the COST Action CA15135 and PRIN 2017 research project “Novel anticancer agents endowed with multi-targeting mechanism of action” (201744BN5T), in which several scientists of the spinoff are involved too. The review abstract is accessible at the link https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ejmech.2019.111579

Net4Science @ XXVI NMMC & XII NPCF, Milan July 16-19 2019

The National Meeting in Medicinal Chemistry and the Young Medicinal Chemistry Symposium are crucial appointments of the international scientific community working in the same field where Net4Science operates. So, after the successful MedChem2019 meeting carried out in June, the spinoff Net4Science decided to support this important event held in Milan from July 16th to 19th. Net4Science does it along with relevant industrial and SMEs working in the field of Medicinal Chemistry. Stefano Alcaro, promoter of the spinoff and scientific director of its activity will attend the whole meeting and moderate one session in the last day of the event. Net4Science with this support consolidates its presence in relevant Medicinal Chemistry meetings extending its cooperation network. Information about the meeting are available at the website https://nmmc2019.unimi.it/

Net4Science @ MedChem2019, Catanzaro June 13-15 2019

Net4Science is one of the major player of the joint meeting MehChem2019 between two international consortia: Paul Ehrlich Euro-PhD Network and MuTaLig COST Action. The meeting will be hosted in an exclusive location at the Complesso Monumentale San Giovanni in the center of Catanzaro in three days. Twenty countries of the pan-European area (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom). The rich scientific program includes the Net4Science poster multimedia session, designed to browse quickly among all 47 accepted contributions also using smartphone or tablets. This modern and technological dissemination tool is an experiment of Net4Science spinoff, that if successful, will be proposed and replicated in other qualified scientific meetings. Deeper information about this initiative can be found at on line at the official meeting web site http://medchem2019.unicz.it where it is possible to download the program, the book of the abstracts and the multimedia poster slides. Finally, during the meeting, two Net4Science spinoff members Donatella Bagetta and Antonio Lupia, will receive the Paul Ehrlich Euro-PhD award in the first day.

Net4Science involved in a multi-target international study against neurodegenerative diseases

The international cooperation in scientific research is a key point of success. Recently on European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (Elsevier edition) a special issue on multi-target drug discovery (MTDD) was launched. The COST rules allow to support the open access version contribution if three or more different countries are involved in the publication. Among the currently accepted manuscripts one fulfilled all items within the third grant period of the MuTaLig COST Action. The topic is related to the design and development of MTDD compounds able to exert beneficial affect against neurodegenerations, and especially Alzheimer disease. The work is carried out by the collaboration of Portuguese, Spanish and Italian teams, including components of the Net4Science academic spinoff. The manuscript is freely accessible at this link https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ejmech.2019.04.026.

Net4Science contributes to an international review in the field of drug-food interactions

One of the major unsolved problems in oral therapies is due to the issue of drug-food interactions. The cooperative international COST Action CA16205 UNGAP www.ungap.eu, devoted to focus the attention on this topic, releases a up-to-date review manuscript on the European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, volume 134, pages 31–59. Net4Science gives a contribution in collaboration with more than ten research teams mostly belonging to several European institutions: Greifswald (Germany), Leuven (Belgium), Basel (Switzerland), Utrecht (the Netherlands), Athens (Greece), Prague and Hradec Králové (Czech Republic), Zagreb (Croatia), London and Nottingham (United Kingdom). The review is freely accessible as open access manuscript at www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0928098719301411

Net4Science and COST Action MuTaLig dissemination

In the third grant period of the COST Action CA15135 “Multi-target paradigm for innovative ligand identification in the drug discovery process (MuTaLig)” the MC management has indicated Net4Science as provider of some dissemination services related to this European cooperation, including more than 30 different countries. Net4Science is now managing about the website www.mutalig.eu and has just created the YouTube Net4Science channel www.youtube.com/channel/UC9Kb8ulRM0jSKvwVHhdklRw. You can register for free at this channel and from today access to three tutorial videos related to the use of the Chemotheca tool http://chemotheca.unicz.it . This is the first international collaboration of the Net4Science spin-off in the strategic field of the hi-quality scientific dissemination.

Net4Science on Frontiers in Chemistry

Net4Science has published its first scientific article at the conclusion of the research topic on the international journal Frontiers in Chemistry (IF 4.155) dedicated to the multi-target drug discovery. The Editorial entitled “Multi-target-directed ligands (MTDL) as challenging research tools in drug discovery: from design to pharmacological evaluation” is available as open access document on line at www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/7369/multi-target-directed-ligands-mtdl-as-challenging-research-tools-in-drug-discovery-from-design-to-ph with all manuscripts accepted by the peer-reviewing process within the research topic. It has been also referenced on Medline at the link www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30834243 and can be directly downloaded from https://doi.org/10.3389/fchem.2019.00071.
